Sifnos is more than beaches and postcard views. It is a living island with people, stories, flavours and habits that are still part of everyday life. Through Authenticity, I invite you to meet that side of Sifnos: cooking in real kitchens, walking old paths, dancing, visiting workshops and talking openly about how life is here today. We will also destroy some Greek tourist myths and support some others, wonder about “authentic”, “original” and “real” and we will have a lot of fun!
Most activities are private, designed around you and your group. For this season I also offer a few shared small-group dates for guests who want to join others. You can see these shared options below.
In this private experience, we cook the kind of food we usually eat at home. while tasting, drinking and talking about Greek food habits, originality and locality, traditions and new ways, local life on an island, anything you would talk over a kitchen table!
At the end we eat together at the same kitchen table or you can take the food with you to eat it wherever you like.
See the Home CookingAt a yard of a local home, we make bread like in the old days, using traditional tools and a wood-fired oven. We knead, shape and wait while we also prepare a pie and explain why bread was made every Saturday and why there are still Greeks who can’t eat if there is no bread on the table.
The activity is available as a private experience, held outside.
See Bread & Pies experienceLike home cooking but outdoors, next to a wood oven! We cook together every day dishes, suitable for the wood oven while talking about the procedure, the trend of “slow cooking” and its roots, eating habits and the reputation that attracts foodies on the island!
This is a private, hands-on experience where everybody is expected to do something – not just watch.
See Wood Oven CookingIn this private experience we will combine a submarine, some coffee grains, family run businesses, lots of anise and stories about lost and found, with tasting local specialties and real Greek flavours. On the way from Artemonas to Apollonia through the central villages, we will also talk about agriculture, recipes linked to customs and beliefs, Sifnos reputation and where it comes from and everyday cooking.
See the Walking Food TourShort, cultural, trekking tours that combine paths, view, plants and stories. We follow old routes and ancient steps, visit archaeological sites and villages, and talk about our immortal wood, water sharing, the wise dry stone building, the reason you see churches everywhere, history, architecture and everyday life while we walk.
All tours are private, adjusted to the level and interests of your group.
See the cultural walksIn about 90 minutes, we learn one to four Greek folk dances in a relaxed, active way. We talk about how this dancing tradition travels with Greeks all over the world and you leave ready to join the circle next time you hear the music.
The lesson is private, for your own group, in a place that suits you on the island.
See Greek Folk DancingA flexible island tour based on heritage interpretation: deeper meaning, first hand experience, personal involvement, awareness for our common heritage. We visit selected places by car or minivan, talk about food, religion, architecture, education and work, history and traditions, past and present, and adjust the route to your interests and the day.
Always private, always personal – the final itinerary is decided on the spot according to your group, your mood and the conditions.
See the island tourWe visit traditional and modern pottery workshops, meet local potters and see how clay becomes everyday objects. In the hands-on version, you also have the chance to sit at the wheel and feel the clay yourself.
All pottery tours are private, with options for observation only or a short wheel session.
See Pottery ToursWhether you prefer a fully private activity or you want to join a small group on one of the shared dates, all experiences are hosted by the same person – me. No scripts, no busy spots, just real conversations and real places.
