Most Home Cooking sessions are private. On a few fixed dates each season, there is also a shared small-group option (see below).
Many people know Sifnos is a destination for foodies. Let me tell you a secret… it is not the food! We will talk about it in my traditional home kitchen while cooking together the way we do with friends and family: we sit around the table, we cut, chop, fry, fold, taste, and talk about everyday life on the island, local history, traditions and simple ideas for what to do and see during your stay.
It is the only hands-on home cooking experience offered in Sifnos, which means everyone is expected to take part in some way. You will not just watch. You will prepare the dishes, taste local treats as we go and appreciate Greek cooking more, when you realize how simple and easy it is!
The recipes we make are what we usually eat at home on a normal day. I chose them from hundreds of Greek gastronomy recipes because they can be repeated easily at home – wherever home is.
At the end you receive the recipes on paper, with clear instructions and notes from our time together, so you can cook them again.
Foodstuffs are fresh and local. I buy them the same day from the market or get them from friends’ gardens. Most groceries come from small Greek producers that I work with regularly.
During our time in the kitchen, I offer drinks such as different kinds of Greek wine, beer, tsipouro, water and my homemade lemonade.
When the food is ready, you can decide what suits you best:
Because everything is cooked from scratch, it is important that you let me know in advance about:
Vegetarians, vegans and dairy-free guests are welcome and can be fully included in the experience. At the moment, I do not offer a gluten-free version.
To fit different guests and situations, there are a few other versions of this home cooking experience in Sifnos.
I am sure you have been wondering about this basic question which baklava is the original for your whole life! Well, we will answer this question, together with many others, while practicing our pastry skills.
In this version we do not cook savory food. We focus only on Greek sweets like baklava, halva, honeypie/melopita, pumpkin pie/loli etc.
We still talk, taste and cook together, but the table is full of sugar, nuts and honey instead of lunch or dinner.
Teenagers getting easily bored? Children full of energy? Looking for something creative to do as a family? Looking for some hours free of parenting duties? I have a great idea! You can keep them busy and happy, let them learn something they can take back home, make them proud of themselves, and show them another way to travel and understand different cultures. This version is designed especially for younger guests.
To ask about dates, starting times or to plan a special version (for example only sweets, only vegetables, focus on kids, etc.), please send me a request with your preferred dates, number of people and any dietary notes.
Normally this home cooking experience is private. For this season I am also testing a few shared small-group dates where you can join other guests. The activity is exactly the same, only the group is shared.
Group size for the shared option: 2-6 participants
The Home Cooking Experience takes place in my own traditional kitchen in Sifnos. It is not a restaurant or a professional cooking school. You come to my home, we cook together and we talk about everyday life on the island, local history and simple ideas for what to do and see while you are here.
No. It is not a formal lesson, although you will learn a lot. It feels like cooking at home with friends. Everyone helps with cutting, chopping, frying and folding, and we taste local treats and drinks while we cook. I give you the recipes on paper at the end so that you can repeat them in your own kitchen.
We cook the kind of food we usually eat at home on a normal day. I choose the recipes from hundreds of Greek dishes because they are simple enough to repeat later, but still very typical of the way we eat in Sifnos. Ingredients are fresh and local, and I buy them the same day from the market or get them from friends’ gardens and small Greek producers.
Yes. Vegetarians, vegans and dairy-free guests are welcome. Because we cook everything from scratch, it is important that you tell me in advance about any allergies, eating disorders, dislikes or ingredients you prefer to avoid. At the moment I do not offer a gluten-free version, so this experience is not suitable for guests who must avoid gluten completely.
The standard Home Cooking Experience and the Sweet Experience last about 3–4 hours, including the time we spend eating lunch or dinner or tasting the sweets. The children and teenagers version is shorter, usually 2–3 hours depending on the age group. Each session is for small groups of 2–6 persons so that everybody can participate comfortably.
Yes. During the session I offer drinks such as different kinds of Greek wine, beer, tsipouro and my homemade lemonade. Water and simple local treats are also available while we cook and taste the dishes we prepare together.
To book, please send me a request with your preferred date, the number of people, the type of experience you are interested in (regular, sweet-only or children/teenagers) and any dietary information I should know.
